“Sun Flyer” Electric Trainer prototype to be on display at Centennial Airport

Sun Flyer to be Highlighted in AirVenture Innovation Preview

Attendees at EAA AirVenture 2016 are invited to visit the breakthrough all-electric “Sun Flyer” trainer prototype, which will be on public display for the first time at Centennial Airport. See this remarkable new aircraft at Booth 66 during AirVenture week, July 25-31.

Several announcements about the Sun Flyer program will be made during a press conference on Tuesday, July 26, at the EAA press headquarters. Updates about the Sun Flyer will also be featured in the AirVenture Innovation Preview, which will air “live” on the afternoon of July 23 via EAA, Aero-News Network and other outlets.

“We have made ambitious progress on the Sun Flyer program over the past two years,” said George Bye, CEO of Aero Electric Aircraft Corp. (AEAC), the company developing Sun Flyer. “In addition to producing the first two-seat Sun Flyer prototype, which was unveiled just two months ago, we have received a number of deposits for the first production Sun Flyers. This includes 25 deposits from Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology.”

Sun Flyer is intended to be first FAA-certified, U.S.-sponsored, practical, all-electric airplane to serve the flight training and general aviation markets. It features a remarkably low operating cost, low aircraft unit cost, low noise and the elimination of exhaust pollutants. Energy, or “fuel,” cost for Sun Flyer is only about $1 of electricity for each hour of flight, compared to $25 to $65 per hour for legacy aircraft with piston-engine leaded avgas.

The two-seat proof of concept prototype for the Sun Flyer solar-electric flight is completing final integration and will soon begin power-on tests at its home station at Centennial Airport near Denver.
